In essence, environmental science is a neutral field of endeavor. Rose (2002) suggests that many environmental sciences seek simply to understand the nature of the planet and the interaction between humans and other life forms as well as the basic physiological matter of which earth and its atmosphere are constructed. Developing such knowledge is largely an unobtrusive and unthreatening activity. However, most environmental sciences also move toward development of practical uses for knowledge gained in research. It is here that ethics comes directly into play (Rose, 2002).
