Nearly every day our newspapers are full of ads for large-screen TVs. Some are LCD, some are Plasma, some are rear projection. And, most confusing of all, is which TV type is best for the consumer's dollar? Before buying, it is important to do some research. Price alone may not be the really important factor: "Read reviews written by other consumers. These are the best way to get real information about picture quality and reliability" ("How to Compare" para. 4). In a well-researched poll of large-screen television sets, here is the best-rated one: "Scoring highest in the segment in overall customer satisfaction-and significantly higher than the industry average-Sony's BRAVIA receives the highest segment scores" ("2007 Ratings" para 5). It is true that Sony's price, even at discount retailers, may be higher than Mitsubishi and Panasonic models, but Sony's performance and quality have always outscored the competition. One Mitsubishi models seems to have a lot of troubles, as discovered on the Internet: "Mitsubishi big screen TV, vs 45609 model - today suddenly has red, blue and green semi wavy line at top of screen and picture doesn't fit whole screen and it shuts off after 5 seconds" ("Mitsubishi TV models" para. 1). Because rear projection requires so much more space, the obvious choice is either Plasma or LCD. So, which one is right? "choose Plasma : if you want overall great color saturation, contrast and screen size choose LCD : if you want your screen to double as a computer monitor or video game console (Ransom para. 5).
